Chilean pesos gold coins, unlike many other bullion coins, have an interesting numismatic value, especially for years after 1975. The peculiarity of these coins concerns the randomness of their issue: in fact, they were not minted every year due to the country's economic and political instability. This leads the value of the coin to depend both on the value of the gold it contains and on the balance between supply and demand. The gold Pesos of Chile are also fascinating coins with refined designs that trace Chile's history and traditions.

The most popular gold Chilean Pesos were issued between the years 1926 and 1980 in denominations of 20, 50 and 100 pesos. The state of preservation of these collector coins is decisive. The 100 gold Pesos is the best known of the South American investment coins. It is easy to find a 100 Pesos coin with a small hole in the reverse field, a sign of sample assay by the Mint, which does not alter its value.
These coins also tell the story of one of the most dramatic pages of Chile's history: the Pinochet dictatorship, a historical period in which many people disappeared into thin air, like the better known Argentinean desaparecidos.
Chile's most popular gold coins reproduce the style of the 10 Pesos gold coin minted between 1851 and 1892 and are among the first to achieve a purity of 900/1000. The minting, suspended in 1932, was resumed after the First World War (1946) and ended in 1980. The coins of recent years are of a more reddish gold colour due to a higher percentage of copper in the alloy.
The coin, minted by the Casa de Moneda de Chile, also known as the Santiago Mint, features on the obverse a bust of a woman with a laureate head representing the Republic dressed in traditional clothing and the inscription: "REPUBLICA DE CHILE", on the reverse a 5-pointed star above a shield, surmounted by a plume of feathers with on either side two animals supporting it (the condor and the huemul, animals symbolic of Chile) both crowned and the inscription: "CIEN PESOS 100 Ps DIEZ CONDORES". Although they are no longer produced, they continue to be among the most popular among investors and collectors of foreign gold coins.
The total weight of the Chilean 100 Pesos is 20.35 grams, including 18.31 grams of fine gold, the equivalent of 0.589 troy ounces of fine gold.
The Chilean Gold Peso produced by the Santiago Mint is one of the most popular investment coins.
